Introduction

Managing users in WordPress is essential for maintaining control over your website. Adding new users allows you to delegate tasks, manage content creation, and control access levels. This guide will walk you through the steps to add a new user to your WordPress site.

Step 1: Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard

  1. Access the Login Page: Go to your WordPress login page, typically found at yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
  2. Enter Your Credentials: Log in with your username and password to access the WordPress dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to the Users Section

  1. Find the Users Menu: In the left-hand menu of the dashboard, locate and click on "Users".
  2. Add New User: Click on "Add New", which is located at the top of the Users page.

Step 3: Fill in User Details

  1. Username: Enter a unique username for the new user. This cannot be changed later.
  2. Email Address: Provide a valid email address for the new user. This email will be used for notifications and password resets.
  3. First Name and Last Name: (Optional) Enter the first and last name of the new user.
  4. Website: (Optional) You can add the user's website if applicable.

Step 4: Set a Password

  1. Password: WordPress will automatically generate a strong password. You can use this or set your own by clicking on "Show password". Send the new user this password in a secure link. (or disregard if you do the next step)
  2. Send User Notification: Check the box to send the new user an email about their account. This email will include their username and a link to set their password.

Step 5: Assign a Role

  1. Select Role: Choose the appropriate role for the new user from the "Role" dropdown menu. The roles available are:
    • Subscriber: Can only manage their profile.
    • Contributor: Can write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them.
    • Author: Can publish and manage their own posts.
    • Editor: Can publish and manage posts, including the posts of other users.
    • Administrator: Has access to all the administration features within a single site.

Step 6: Add the New User

  1. Complete the Process: Click on the "Add New User" button at the bottom of the page to finalize the creation of the new user.
  2. Confirmation: You will see a confirmation message indicating that the new user has been added successfully.
